After limping off with a hamstring strain in Liverpool's crucial 3-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, striker Daniel Sturridge could be a doubt for the club's remaining four fixtures of the season, starting with Norwich on Sunday, creating a blow to the Reds' title hopes and also the goalscoring record he has been chasing with partner Luis Suarez.

The pair have totalled 49 goals in the league this term, and with just Suarez, it may now be too much of an ask to surpass the record for the most lethal strike partnership in a Premier League season, set by Andy Cole and Peter Beardsley for Newcastle United in 1993/94, when the pair scored a combined 55 goals to fire the Magpies to a third-placed finish.

Edging ever near, however, is overtaking the original 'SAS' partnership of Chris Sutton and Alan Shearer. Suarez and Sturridge have currently equalled the same number of goals as the duo totalled in the season they fired Blackburn Rovers to the Premier League title in 1994/95.

Only one other duo have scored more than 50 Premier League goals combined in a season - Didier Drogba (29) and Frank Lampard (22) totalled 51 goals in 2009/10 and Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea side won the title.
