David De Gea had a moment to forget during Saturday evening's Premier League clash with league leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Much like a number of United fans in attendance in South-west London, De Gea thought Wayne Rooney had scored when the captain curled a first-time effort towards Thibault Courtois’s near-post.

The ball ricocheted off the metal post that holds the net out behind the goal, which deflected it behind the net and give the impression that Rooney and scored an absolute peach of a goal.

However, once the ball emerged the other side of the net, it quickly dawned on both the fans and the players that Rooney had missed – and by some way too. The Sky Sports cameras didn’t let De Gea off the hook though, as they showed replay of the Spanish goalkeeper giving ti a double-fist pump in celebration of going ahead.

He quickly noticed that there was no goal to be found, and the game continued with a goal kick.
