D-Day for Spurs' £400m stadium plans

Tottenham will discover on 30 September whether their £400m plans to redevelop White Hart Lane have the green light.

The redevelopment goes before Haringey council's planning committee and Spurs are confident it will be approved.

They first revealed plans for the Northumberland Park Development in October 2008 but have battled transport issues and the concerns of heritage groups.

A reworked plan was submitted in May in which Spurs addressed the worries of English Heritage and club insiders believe transport worries are the only potential obstacle to the plans being given the go-ahead.

Tottenham believe they have general support within the council but appreciate there are concerns over transport at the new 56,250-seater stadium, which will hopefully be graced by the likes of Jermain Defoe (left).

They still plan to have the "silver ring" venue ready for 2013-14, but with planning consent, the club will still face a challenge to finance the stadium and feel they need to secure a naming-rights sponsor in advance. Spurs believe they have outgrown White Hart Lane, which seats 36,310, and fear they will be left behind unless they move into a bigger stadium.
