Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed today that recent signing Emre Can could be out for up to six weeks after suffering an ankle injury while on international duty for the Germany Under-21's this week.

In his press briefing before the Reds' Premier League match against Aston Villa on Saturday, Rodgers also gave an update on Daniel Sturridge, who picked up a thigh strain during England training, saying the striker will be out for "up to three weeks".

Can has made two appearances for the club since his £9.75m move from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer, coming on for Joe Allen in both matches.

Allen will also miss the home game against Villa after injuring his knee in Wales' 2-1 win at Andorra.

"Emre Can could be out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury," Rodgers said today. "Joe Allen has an issue with his knee, both from international duty."
