Dr Eva Carneiro has received the support of Fifa’s medical chief Michel D’Hooghe as she continues her legal case against former employers Chelsea.

The 42-year-old is pursuing a case of constructive dismissal concurrently alongside an individual action against José Mourinho for victimisation and discrimination.

Mourinho, the Chelsea manager, publically criticised Carneiro and head physiotherapist Jon Fearn for responding to referee Michael Oliver’s call for them to enter the field of play to treat Eden Hazard during the 2-2 draw with Swansea City in August.

Their intervention momentarily reduced the London club to nine men, after having goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois sent off, as Hazard received treatment on the sidelines.

The actions of both Carneiro and Fearn were later described by Mourinho as ‘impulsive and naïve’ and the pair were absent on the coaching bench for subsequent Premier League fixtures.

D’Hooghe, the medical committee chairman at Fifa, said: “Of course I support Eva Carneiro. She did her job, she did her duty - when somebody is medically in trouble, she has to intervene.

“Of course she has my support and the whole medical committees. I have had email contact with her and she is very happy with the global support of the medical world in football.

“I can imagine that in the short term she might have some problems with [finding another job] but with her personality and her competence she must certainly have a great future and if I can help her I will do it.”

Mourinho was the subject of a Football Association investigation into the use of discriminatory language against Carneiro and was later cleared of wrongdoing in relation to that matter.
