It’s a big game for…

Ross Barkley. England’s latest boy wonder is playing himself into contention for Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad. Quick, tenacious and an eye for goal, Barkley is doing nothing to quash the similarities between himself and former Toffee Paul Gascoigne. Obviously no decisions are made over one game but the Merseyside derby is the perfect platform for Barkley to show England why he is needed.

Best stat…

17: Liverpool have lost only one of the last 17 Merseyside derbies in the Premier League.

Remember when…

Phil Jagielka’ injury time thunderbolt earned Everton a 1-1 draw at Anfield?

Player to watch…

Daniel Sturridge. The England striker announced his return to Premier League football with a brace in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Aston villa last week. After being rested for visit of FC Sion in the Europa League, Sturridge will take another step towards full fitness by playing on the other side of Stanley Park.

On the other teamsheet will be Romelu Lukaku. The big forward scored a dramatic winner as Everton came from two behind to beat West Bromwich Albion on Monday night. Four goals in seven starts is a good return and the Belgian international is now four shy of 50 Premier League goals.

Past three-meetings…

Liverpool 1 (Gerrard) Everton 1 (Jagielka), Premier League, September 2014.

Liverpool 4 (Gerrard, Sturridge 2, Suarez) Everton 0, Premier League, January 2014.
