Foster won't demand Manchester United exit

Ben Foster has no intention of banging on Sir Alex Ferguson's door and demanding to know why his World Cup dream is in jeopardy.

Foster was in goal for England for the second game running on Saturday, despite being only third choice at Manchester United.

It is a situation that could end up with Foster missing out on a place in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

Yet Foster, perhaps wisely, is not going to start rocking the boat at Manchester United.

"It is everything for a footballer to go to the World Cup but I can't go saying 'I want to leave' or anything like that," he said.

"Edwin van der Sar is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I can't really go knocking on the manager's door and say he is not doing his job because he is."

Nevertheless, Foster has been starved of opportunities since the last international break.

He did start the Carling Cup tie at Barnsley last month but has otherwise been idle, paying the price for high-profile mistakes against Manchester City and Sunderland which could have proved costly after he stepped in for Van der Sar at the start of the season.

Not that Foster thinks he wasted his opportunity.

"I thought I started off well but then there was a period of two or three games where I made a few mistakes," he said.

"But they were the only ones I made really and I was disappointed to find myself out of the team.

"It's a weird one. I am third choice for Manchester United at the moment yet I am playing for my country.

"I have to admit, it is very disheartening not to even be on the bench at United."
