Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has committed a big Twitter no-no after taking to social media having consumed a few too many drinks – and promptly described a proportion of the clubs’ fans “prized w*****s”.

The foul-mouthed rant was posted shortly after Wright called for someone at the club to be sacked for failing to re-sign Cesc Fabregas in the summer given that the Gunners had a clause in his contract to bring him back to the Emirates from Barcelona.

Arsene Wenger elected not to follow up on the buy-back clause though, and instead Fabregas joined rivals Chelsea in a near-£30m deal that has helped the Blues steam ahead in the race for the Premier League title.

Wright, like many former Arsenal players as well as fans this season, has voiced his concerns at both the Gunners’ form and their transfer policy, but Thursday’s outburst was a surprise nonetheless.

Wright said: “For the record the mere fact that Fabregas is at Chelsea when we had first option, don't care who but someone should be sacked.

“So disappointed with the amount of prize w*****s who are supporting the club I love. Wish I could meet them individually. Would be carnage!”

Such was the astonishment at what the former club record goalscorers was saying, many were questioning whether he was drunk, but Wright soon cleared that up for anyone that was still in doubt.

“No everyone not been hacked! but yes I've had a few! Many a true word spoken in drunken tongue!”

Wright’s 185 goals in 288 matches for the north London side was eclipsed only by Thierry Henry, and the 51-year-old remains a frequent visitor to the Emirates whether it’s as a fan or with his work commitments as a pundit for BT Sport.
