Chelsea captain John Terry has shocked football supporters by revealing that he voted for Liverpool rival Phillippe Coutinho as his PFA Player of the Year.

By posting an image of his selection sheet on Instagram, the defender showed off his choices to his 875,000 followers ahead of the PFA Awards later this month.

Coutinho has clearly caught the eye of Terry with his superb recent form for Liverpool, and scored the winning goal in Wednesday’s FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn that took Brendan Rodgers’ team to Wembley.

Terry revealed his choices on Instagram

The Brazilian played 70 minutes against the former England skipper when Chelsea prevailed 2-1 at Anfield back in November, and the pair both featured twice as the Blues defeated Liverpool over two legs in the Capital One Cup semi-final earlier this year.

The Chelsea defender also revealed that he has voted for Tottenham striker Harry Kane as his Young Player of the Year while including the Southampton trio Jose Fonte, Saido Mane and former team-mate Ryan Bertrand, in his team of the season.

Terry's team of the year: De Gea (Manchester United), Clyne (Southampton), Koscielny (Arsenal) Fonte (Southampton), Bertrand (Southampton), Phillipe Coutinho (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Juan Mata (Manchester United), Sadio Mane (Southampton), Harry Kane (Spurs), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City).
