Mourinho says he has no plans in place with any club

Jose Mourinho has rejected all reports that he has a deal agreed to join Manchester United, and admitted that he is yet to finalise a contract with any club as his future remains clouded in uncertainty.

Reports on Tuesday morning linked the former Chelsea manager with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, with the Daily Mail claiming that the Portuguese will open negotiations with the French side next week if Louis van Gaal is still manager of United.

The Premier League side face Crystal Palace on Saturday in the FA Cup final, though their failure to finish inside the top four in the Premier League could yet see the Dutchman pay the price despite having a year left to run on his contract.

Despite previously claiming he will be in a new job next season, Mourinho has played down the reports of having a deal in place, and when asked by Sky Sports he simply shook his head to reveal he remains a free agent in the managerial market.

When pushed further, he revealed what the next few weeks had in store for him. “I go to Montreal for the Grand Prix and carry on enjoying my life.”

Mourinho was asked if that even meant there was nothing agreed to take the United job in the future, to which he replied: “With nobody.”

Despite the reports that the former Arsenal player was among those who forced Mourinho out at Stamford Bridge, he was one of the few to speak publicly in glowing terms of Mourinho. "Thank you for all you have done for me," he wrote on Twitter. "I owe you a lot and we will all miss you. Good luck in the future."

Mourinho’s future remains one of the most talked about football stories of the year given the Portuguese has kept quiet on where he will manage next after he was sacked by Chelsea in December. United have appeared to be the heavy favourites given Van Gaal’s turbulent season, but the Dutchman can yet bring success to the club by beating Palace on Saturday.

Whether a first FA Cup trophy since 2004 will be enough to appease the United hierarchy remains to be seen, but United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has made it clear that he will stick by Van Gaal at all costs, even though it potentially cost them a place in next season’s Champions League.

United could technically still qualify for the Champions League by beating Manchester City to fourth, though they would need to beat Bournemouth by an unrealistic 19 goals in order to leapfrog their fierce rivals and finish the season in fourth place. The final match of the Premier League season is taking place on Tuesday night to the match being postponed on Sunday due to a bomb scare that proved to be a fake after a security company left a dummy bomb used in a training exercise inside a toilet at Old Trafford.

Two stands needed to be evacuated before the stadium was closed off and the match was postponed, and a controlled explosion by the Manchester bomb squad left the Old Trafford structure with enough damage that meant it would be impossible to play the match on Monday.
