Roy Keane has launched an appeal against his two Football Association disciplinary charges. The Manchester United captain faces a charge of deliberately setting out to injure Manchester City's Alf-Inge Haaland at Old Trafford last year and of profiting from revelations made in his autobiography.

The FA responded by charging Keane on 4 September and gave him 14 days to appeal. That deadline expired on Wednesday, but the midfielder was given a 48-hour extension, and last night confirmed that he would be appealing.

The Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy could be facing a Champions' League ban after Uefa, European football's governing body, viewed video evidence of a clash with the Dynamo Kiev defender Tiberiu Ghioane. The Welshman appeared to make contact with the Kiev player with his head in his side's 2-0 defeat on Wednesday. The referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez did not see the incident which was picked up by television cameras.

Millwall are set to complete the signing of Dennis Wise on Tuesday following the upholding of the midfielder's dismissal by Leicester for breaking a team-mate's cheekbone.

Fulham are to bring forward contract negotiations with their manager, Jean Tigana, following a run of one defeat in 14 games. The Frenchman's three-year deal runs out next summer and talks on an extension had been lined up for January.

The Tottenham captain, Teddy Sheringham, has said he wants a one-year contract extension. Sheringham's current deal is due to run out at the end of the season.

The Bradford striker Ashley Ward is poised to sign for Portsmouth. The Bantams may let Ward leave on a free transfer or may loan him and continue to pay half his £18,000-a-week wages. Portsmouth are also set to sign the Manchester City centre-half Paul Ritchie on loan for three months.
