Liverpool will have to wait to discover the full extent of striker Fernando Torres' knee injury after he was examined by a specialist.

The Spain international missed yesterday's goalless draw at home to Fulham - a result which caused a huge dent in Liverpool's top-four aspirations - to travel to Spain for an assessment.

He received some treatment today but will be reassessed later in the week when the specialist will hopefully have a better idea of how the problem is likely to affect the rest of Torres' season.

"Fernando Torres was examined by a knee specialist this afternoon in Spain," a club statement read.

"He received treatment and will continue to do so over the next few days, with the injury being reassessed later this week."

Liverpool's next match is not until Monday, at home to West Ham, but probably of more significance now is the Europa League semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid - Torres' former club - on April 22.
