Snapchat video taken during the Champions League final revealed Elliott mocking Kane’s voice and labelling him the offensive term

New Liverpool signing Harvey Elliott has issued an apology for a past video that showed him mocking England captain Harry Kane by calling him a f****** m*** earlier this summer.

The video has been dragged up on social media following the 16-year-old’s move from Fulham to Liverpool, with many criticising his comments on Twitter after he mocked the Tottenham striker’s accent in a Snapchat video.

In his apology, Elliott claimed that he was not directing the abuse “at any individual”, though the footage shows him watching the Champions League final between Spurs and Liverpool last month and he appears to reference Kane when recording himself. Kane was also pictured in the video, which had the caption “f****** m***”.

“I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet,” Elliot said in a statement released on his Instagram page.

“The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.

“I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I've been brought up, and I am truly sorry.”

Elliott has already found himself in the headlines this week over Liverpool’s compensation fee that they will have to pay Fulham, with the Championship club demanding around £10m that would stand as the highest ever paid for a youth player.

Liverpool are required to pay Fulham a compensation fee due to the club developing him through their academy and the winger leaving before signing his first professional contract. If the two clubs cannot agree a fee for his transfer, the case will be taken to an independent tribunal where a fee will be set.
