Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has given fans an update on his condition after undergoing successful surgery on his injured shoulder.

The Argentina left-back suffered a dislocated shoulder in training following the 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven in late November, a result that has proven pivotal to United’s Champions League group stage elimination which was confirmed by the 3-2 defeat by Wolfsburg on Tuesday night.

Rojo had been given a solid run in the first team after seeing Luke Shaw suffer a broken leg in the loss at PSV back in September, and with the England international ruled out until April at the earliest, it appeared that Rojo would see a considerable amount of first-team action throughout the rest of the season despite not being Louis van Gaal’s first-choice option.

The shoulder dislocation stopped Rojo in his tracks though, and he has been ruled out for the rest of the year after having an operation on the injury.

The 25-year-old defender took to Instagram on Wednesday to update his followers on his condition, and he posted a picture from his hospital bed where he gave the thumbs up.

He included the message: “My operation was a success. Thank you to my beautiful wife, always with me. Thank you everyone for your messages of love and support.”

As well as recovering from the operation, Rojo looked to be enjoying his breakfast, and United manager Van Gaal will hope to have him back in action sooner rather than later after seeing another two players struck down by injury during United’s defeat at Wolfsburg.

Full-back Matteo Darmian was forced off during the first half with a hamstring injury, while stand-in captain Chris Smalling was forced to play the final 10 minutes carrying a groin injury after United had used up all three of their substitutions.

They join a whole host of their team-mates currently on the sidelines, and Van Gaal has been forced to delve into the club’s academy throughout the season so far given he has been unable to call on a number of his key players.

Wayne Rooney has missed the last two matches for United with an ankle injury, while Phil Jones and Ander Herrera have not played since the victory over Watford last month. Utility wide-man Antonio Valencia joins Shaw on the long-term casualty list having undergone an operation on his ankle, while Morgan Schneiderlin is currently out of action having suffered a thigh strain in the 0-0 draw with West Ham at the weekend.
