Ander Herrera has admitted that he is benefitting from the experience of competing with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick in Manchester United’s midfield, but has warned his team-mates that he will do everything possible to make himself a first-team regular.

The Spain international believes that the competition in United’s midfield – which also includes summer signing Morgan Schneiderlin – is healthy for the team. Herrera was one of the star performers in United’s 3-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, with the midfielder scoring the second goal and laying on the assist for Wayne Roonery to net the third after Schneiderlin opened to scoring.

Having been in and out of the first-team under Louis van Gaal, Herrera now wants to go about securing his place in the starting line-up and hopes to benefit from tapping into the experience of his team-mates.

"You take advantage of that (the competition in the middle of the park). When you play with the best players you take advantage of that like we did," Herrera told the club's official website manutd.com.

"This is good for me, good for the club. When the club signs top players you are going to take advantage of that and that is what I'm doing.

"You have (Schweinsteiger) and also Michael Carrick and they are very experienced guys. I think Morgan and me can learn a lot from them," he added.

"I think people value me because I always try to give everything for the team. I will try to do my best to establish myself in the first team. I am a team player and when I play I will do my best.

"I want to be a top player. You want to always be in the team but this is Manchester United. You have to play really good if you want to be in the team every day, so that's what I want to do."

Herrera could get his chance to solidify his place in Van Gaal’s first-team plans with two big games in the space of a week. United travel to Russia to face CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday, before returning to prepare for the first Manchester derby of the season as Manchester City visit Old Trafford on Sunday.
