Jose Mourinho has reportedly confirmed that he will be taking on a new managerial role in the summer.

The former Chelsea manager has been persistently linked with the Manchester United job since his dismissal from Stamford Bridge in December.

Mourinho, who recently revealed he would prefer to wait until the end of the season before returning to football, has now apparently revealed that a deal with a new club is in place.

Matt Smith, one of the company’s presenters, recorded an interview with the Portuguese coach and claims that the off-the-record revelation was made when the cameras were not rolling.

“Well it was a very illuminating chat with Señor #Mourinho for @btsport - you will see it on various BT shows. And he WILL be joining... his new club in July,” Smith posted on Twitter.

Mourinho is an ‘ambassador’ for the sports broadcasting company, having signed a three-year contract to ‘make football programmes and appear as a football expert’ on BT channels in 2014.

The 52-year-old is believed to be keen on replacing Louis van Gaal, although also desires not to step on the toes of his friend and former mentor.

As revealed by The Independent in January, Mourinho wrote a letter to the club’s board in an attempt to convince members of the Old Trafford hierarchy that he is the right man for the job.

Van Gaal’s hopes of lasting beyond the summer were dealt another blow last night as his side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool in the Europa League round of 16.
