Not everyone had a smile on their face during the photo call at Old Trafford

Official team photos somehow feel like a throwback to the good old days when new shirts would only be released about once every three years and the word 'simulation' had never been associated with the beautiful game.

But whilst some things have changed, clubs still insist on bringing their entire squad of players together, arrange them in some sort of height order and ask that they put their hands on their knees.

The players are probably asked to smile as well - but synchronising that 'say cheese' moment is obviously harder than it sounds as today's effort from Manchester United shows delectably.

Most of the new signings who took part in the shoot at Old Trafford seemed to get the gist of it - Radamel Falcao, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind are pulling suitable faces whilst Angel Di Maria (perhaps chuffed from his recent man-of-the-match performance against QPR) is positively beaming.

But others appeared to struggle with the photographers' direction.

Antonio Valencia in particular has the face of a man who looks ready to punch anyone who dares ask him to shuffle left or right once more. Wayne Rooney meanwhile is in full trademark thousand-yard stare mode.

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard has the look of someone not quite certain what they're doing there - an accusation not levelled at the youngster for the first time.
