Manchester United have said they will honour all shirt sales after fans snapped up the new home kit at a vastly reduced price after an error on the club's official website.

The 2014/15 men's home shirt should retail at £55 but a gaffe meant it was listed for £22, a reduction of more than 50 per cent, for around 30 minutes.

Despite the error being quickly corrected, many fans were quick to take advantage.

The website's operators, kitbag.com, said they were unsure they could fulfil the "high volume" of orders, but Manchester United have since insisted they will honour all purchases made by quick-fire fans.

A statement read: "United Direct, the Club's Official Online Megastore, which is run by our e-commerce partner Kitbag, sent out communications which contained details of an erroneous discount code to our fans around the globe - this offer has now ended."

"United Direct will honour all consumer orders placed using this discount code, an approach which is fully endorsed by the club."

Despite last season's dreadful showing which saw the club finish seventh in the Premier League, expectations for the campaign ahead are sky high following the arrival of Louis van Gaal - and even more so after United trounced LA Galaxy 7-0  in their first pre-season friendly.
