James Wilson will make his second ever Premier League start tonight in Manchester United's match against Stoke City, with Wayne Rooney out injured.

On his first Premier League start for the club, Wilson of course scored two goals in a 3-1 win over Hull City back in May of this year.

Rooney picked up a knock during Saturday's match against Hull. £59.7m British record signing Angel Di Maria is also out after picking up a hamstring injury in the same match against Hull.

"Di Maria cannot play, and Rooney cannot play," manager Louis van Gaal said before kick-off. "Wilson has the opportunity to show himself."

Van Gaal had previously aid of Wilson: "He has already been knocking on the door for a long time, that I have said in many press conferences.

"That is not only because he substituted Robin van Persie in the last match. I believe in him but he has competition with [Radamel] Falcao and Robin van Persie."
