Gavin McCann will discuss personal terms with Aston Villa after the club agreed a £2.25m fee with Sunderland.
The 25-year-old could now be set for a quick return to the Premiership after suffering relegation with the Black Cats last season. McCann, who joined Sunderland in 1998 in a £500,000 deal from Everton, has one England cap, awarded in Sven Goran Eriksson's first match in charge against Spain more than two years ago.
Kevin Phillips is also on his way out of the Stadium of Light. Mick McCarthy, the Sunderland manager, has said that he does not expect the England striker to be there for much longer - and that was reflected yesterday with the announcement of new squad numbers. Phillips was given No 19, with Marcus Stewart taking over his No 10.
Like McCann, Steven Reid is due to discuss personal terms - but with Blackburn. Millwall have agreed an as yet undisclosed fee with Rovers for the Republic of Ireland midfielder, and the 22-year-old will travel to Ewood Park for talks when Blackburn return from their tour of the United States.
