As anyone who follows Mesut Özil on Twitter will know, the Arsenal midfielder tends to get carried away with himself whenever the team win a game – or at least as far a 10-year-old would.

The 27-year-old Germany international is as kind and generous as they come on social media, which is a far cry from the devastating character he has portrayed in the Premier League after laying on an unrivalled 15 assists this season, with his latest two coming in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Monday night.

With Thierry Henry’s Premier League assist record of 20 firmly in his sights, Özil could well register the most ever seen in a single season, and he has already equalled Chelsea winger Eden Hazard’s tally of 29 career assists in the top flight despite playing 59 fewer matches than the Belgian.

So with Arsenal just two points off the Premier League summit, the newly-installed title favourites and Özil one of the form players in Europe, he allowed himself to go emoji-crazy with his latest tweet to celebrate the win over rivals City.

He also posted a picture on his Instagram page of himself, Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Flamini in the Emirates Stadium dressing room after the full-time whistle, and as usual, he was performing his trademark ‘M’ celebration which he displays each time he scores.

At the rate Özil is currently providing assists, he could break Henry’s mark of 20 in the 6 February fixture at Bournemouth, with the World Cup winner providing an assist every 0.87 games this season.

Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas came close to breaking Henry’s record last season, but the Chelsea midfielder just fell short of the mark after finishing the Blues’s title-winning campaign with 18 assists, two shy of Henry’s record set back in 2002/03.
