Mick Harford is in talks with Newcastle over a role at St James’ Park. The former England striker is reported to have held discussions over working alongside new director of football Joe Kinnear.
Sunderland-born Harford had a brief spell with the Magpies as a player from August 1981 to March 1982. The 54-year-old, who played under Kinnear at Wimbledon during an 11-club career, was last month named Millwall coach.
So far, not a single senior player has been added to the Newcastle squad this summer , while Steve Harper, Danny Simpson and James Perch have been allowed to leave.
