Chelsea know they will begin their 2015/16 Premier League title defence against Swansea after the fixtures for the new season were released.

However, the biggest story of the opening weekend sees Tottenham travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in what could prove to be the fixture of the season, let alone the opening round.

With fans already scratching their heads and at a loss at how to fill their time that was occupied by weekend football, there was huge anticipation for the Premier League to confirm the matches and signal that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This time last year fans were gripped by the World Cup in Brazil, and while the Women’s World Cup and Under-21 European Championship has quenched the thirst of the supporters somewhat, there’s nothing quite like the Premier League.

So with today’s fixture release comes the build-up to the new season. Key games are now known, such as the first Manchester derby at Old Trafford on 24 October, the North London derby at the Emirates on 7 November and the final game at Upton Park when West Ham say goodbye on 7 May against Swansea and prepare to relocate to the Olympic Stadium.

Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich will all feature in the top flight this season too, after clinching promotion from the Championship last term, and it’ll be fascinating to see if they can match Leicester’s feat last season and stay up come May.
