This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

With the Premier League season coming to a close on Sunday, it is that time when the end-of-year gongs are handed out.
As ever at The Independent, we’ve pulled together our own awards from best goal to best signing via the standout player.
Some top performers have just missed out, including Raheem Sterling, Raul Jimenez and Mohamed Salah.
Meanwhile some names that were not anticipated to shine back in August, like Sheffield United’s John Egan, have deservedly earned their place.
And if you want a laugh here’s our predictions at the start of the season – some shockers in there...
Dean Henderson Recovered from one or two errors in the early part of the season to be a huge part of Sheffield United’s exceptional defensive unit, so much so that he has forced himself into the conversation for both England’s No1 and Manchester United’s too, should he return to his parent club next season.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: The flying full-back has earned the second-most assists in the league and been a constant threat from set-pieces. He epitomises Jurgen Klopp’s team and will be a Premier League star for many years to come.
Virgil van Dijk: Another supreme season for the big centre-back, even if not quite as flawless as last year when he muscled into the conversation for the Ballon d’Or. The outstanding centre-back in the division.
John Egan: The Republic of Ireland centre-back has been an ever-present in Chris Wilder’s free-flowing defensive unit and has even started adding goals to his game later in the season.
Andrew Robertson: Almost as many assists as Trent Alexander-Arnold for the Scottish full-back attacking down the other flank. Robertson’s contribution to Liverpool’s final goal against Chelsea this week summed up his part in the champions’ team.
Kevin De Bruyne: An automatic pick as the outstanding player in the league over the past few seasons, with 19 assists in 37 games in this campaign and counting.
Jordan Henderson: Liverpool are just not quite the same without the balance, energy and leadership of their captain, and that might just be the greatest compliment you could pay him.
Bruno Fernandes: The Portuguese has transformed Manchester United from also-rans to serious top-four contenders, having signed in January from Sporting, and will inevitably be discussed as a potential player-of-the-year contender next season.
Sadio Mane: Perhaps Liverpool’s best player this season in terms of sheer skill and talent, and might count himself unlucky not be in the running for the major individual gongs.
Jamie Vardy: Although both Vardy and Leicester have struggled since the restart, his phenomenal first half of the season cannot be forgotten and he is set to win his first Golden Boot.
Danny Ings: The Southampton striker has been a revelation, deadly in front of goal, and fully deserving of recognition as one of the league’s best strikers this season.
Just missed out: Martin Dubravka, Caglar Soyuncu, Fabinho, Raul Jimenez.
Player of the season: Kevin De Bruyne. He won the most votes from our writers by a distance.
Manager of the season: Jurgen Klopp. Just edged out Chris Wilder, who both excelled in very different ways.
