Everton manager Roberto Martinez ready to offer Phil Neville quick route back to Goodison Park

The 36-year-old will be offered a coaching role

Roberto Martinez has intimated that Phil Neville could have a future at Everton as a coach. The club's new manager is ready to hold talks with the 36-year-old, who announced he was leaving Goodison Park this summer, about his career plans.

Neville announced his retirement from playing on Saturday and has been involved with coaching at under-21 level. He gave further indication of his intention to go into management by being interviewed for the position Martinez eventually landed after David Moyes' move to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Martinez faces a battle with Moyes for Neville, as Manchester United are also courting him to become a coach.

“I think Phil Neville is an Everton icon and I think he can bring a lot into his time as a coach,” Martinez said. “I really want to speak with him and see how he feels about his future.” Neville had been an Everton player for eight years following his £5 million move from United and the defender became an influential player at the club.

Hull have stepped up their interest in the Celtic forward Gary Hooper. After gaining promotion to the Premier League the club need to add fire power to their squad and have offered in excess of £4m for the 25-year-old.

Hooper was courted by Norwich City, Reading and Sunderland during the January transfer window but chose to stay at Celtic Park and helped Neil Lennon's side win the double.

Lennon has admitted that every player in his squad has a price but he is likely to ask Hull to increase their initial offer. Celtic's original valuation for the striker was around £7m.

Hooper has scored 63 goals in 95 games in the Scottish Premier League since he moved from Scunthorpe United in 2010 for £2m.
