Tottenham home form has spoilt hopes of Champions League qualification, admits Danny Rose
Defender Danny Rose concedes that a top-four finish will be ‘very hard’ for Tottenham
Danny Rose has described Tottenham Hotspur’s home form as “unacceptable” as the club’s bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League becomes increasingly unlikely to be successful.
A top-four finish was the goal at the start of the season, after Spurs missed out on it by just one point last year. But Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal leaves Tottenham seven points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City.
“We’ve got to keep fighting until the end,” Rose said, “but it’s going to be very hard to break into the top four. Man City have three games in hand, Liverpool are playing extremely well, and Chelsea and Arsenal are playing well as well. We might have to look to next season now.
“Some of the games we have lost and drawn at home, it’s been unacceptable.”
Rose said the players are in the dark over whether Tim Sherwood will stay as manager next season. “It has been great working for [Sherwood],” Rose said. “I’ve known him for a long time and if it wasn’t for him, I’m not sure where I’d be playing right now. He’s helped me change my Tottenham career right around.”
