Perhaps disappointed at not being involved in transfer deadline day, Luis Suarez returned to Liverpool today to cause a few ripples on Merseyside.

The Uruguay striker left the Anfield club earlier this summer in a £75m deal to Barcelona.

However the transfer was concluded whilst Suarez was in his home country which meant he was unable to say proper goodbyes to his team-mates - a situation he ratified today.

Steven Gerrard was among those he said farewell in person to, with the Liverpool captain posting a picture of himself and Suarez on Instagram with the pair holding a signed Barcelona shirt bearing the name of the departed striker.

The image was accompanied by a message reading: "He is back bearing gifts.

"Emotional saying goodbye to the main man this morning. Best wishes to a phenomenal player."

It's understood Suarez was also collecting some belongings on his trip to the Melwood training facility and himself posted a picture on Twitter along with Liverpool defenders Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan.

The accompanying words read: "Today I could say goodbye to some friends, it was exciting to remember the good moments that we lived together.

"Thank you for all the joy you gave me!!!!! Great picture with glen-johnson, jon-flan93 and Steven Gerrard!!!!"

Suarez is still serving a ban for a bite at the World Cup but will be able to make his return to action on 26 October.
