Garry Monk is expected to depart Swansea City in the next 48 hours after the 3-0 defeat to Leicester City left them just one point above the relegation zone.

The Swans are without a victory in six Premier League matches as fears grow that a relegation battle lies on the horizon.

Should the report, published by the Daily Telegraph, prove to be correct, Monk would be the fourth managerial casualty of the season so far. Swansea will have to pay the 36-year-old a figure in the region of £3m in compensation.

Chairman Huw Jenkins has been linked with a move to reappoint former manager Brendan Rodgers after the 42-year-old was sacked by Liverpool in October and replaced by Jürgen Klopp.

Rodgers guided Swansea to promotion via the Championship play-offs in 2011, but may baulk at the prospect of potentially damaging the legacy he left behind at the Liberty Stadium.

Monk’s expected dismissal would end an 11-year association with the club after playing for the Swans in all four divisions before leading them to their highest-ever top flight points tally last season.

Former Manchester United and Real Sociedad manager David Moyes is thought to have distanced himself from the running while Mark Warburton, the Rangers boss, is likely to be linked with the post.
