The four most in-form English players in the Premier League

We reveal the players at Roy Hodgson's disposal most deserving of a chance, but one of them isn't even in the latest squad

Last week England manager Roy Hodgson named his 23 man squad for their upcoming friendlies against Spain and France.

Many English players have been in impressive form in the Premier League this season, with some earning their first international call-ups. Tottenham pair Eric Dier and Dele Alli as well as man of the moment, Leicester City's Jamie Vardy are the most notable new faces in the England setup this season.

The Independent have teamed up with fantasy football game www.oulala.com and using its extensive database of Opta fed statistics, Oulala have revealed who have been the top performing English players in the Premier League this term.

In the lead up to England's upcoming friendlies, here are the top rated English players in each position.

Goalkeeper

The stats show that Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland is currently outperforming Joe Hart in the Premier League. The in-form 22-year-old is in-fact ranked the top goalkeeper in the top five European leagues this season. Butland has kept four clean sheets, all coming in his last five games. He has made a total of 40 saves, at an average of 3.3 saves per game and 44 claims, the third most in the Premier League, with a success-rate of 98 per cent.

Defender

Despite being uncapped for England, Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann is ranked as the Premier League's top performing English defender this season. The 28-year-old has again been left out of Roy Hodgson's squad for the upcoming friendlies against Spain and France. However, his stats merit a deserved inclusion. Dann has won eight tackles and 29 aerial duels in his 11 appearances this season. He has made 16 interceptions, 17 blocks and 70 clearances. The defender has also shown a threat offensively, registering two goals and one assist.

Midfielder

Ross Barkley has brought a new level of consistency to his game this season. As one of Everton's standout performers, the stats backup the 21-year-old's ranking as England's best performing midfielder. Barkley has been Everton's main goal threat from the middle of the park. He has attempted 35 shots, the second most from any midfielder, scoring three and enjoying a 54 per cent shot accuracy. He is averaging 44 passes per game with an accuracy of 87 per cent. Barkley has also displayed his creativity in abundance, providing 20 key passes and three assists. His 31 successful dribbles is the fourth most by any player in the Premier League.

Striker

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy has been the best performing English forward in the Premier League this season. The stats show that the 28-year-old has outperformed both Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane in a host of key areas. Currently on a record breaking goal scoring run, Vardy has netted in nine consecutive Premier League games to hit a remarkable total of 12 goals from 12 games, leading the scoring charts by a clear five goals. With 48 shots, the third most from any player, Vardy has a conversion-rate of 25 per cent and a shot accuracy of 59 per cent. The Leicester striker has also impressed in other areas. He has provided 14 key passes, one assist and has won 39 aerial duels. While defensively he has made 15 tackles, eight interceptions and four clearances.
