Harry Kane and Son Heung-min hailed as ‘best in the world’ by former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe

The duo have 16 goals in the Premier League this season

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has lauded the “unbelievable” impact that current forward duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have had on the team this season.

Jose Mourinho’s side have climbed to the top of the Premier League table and have the best defensive record in the league after their weekend 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

But it’s at the other end of the pitch where Defoe has been impressed, with Kane netting seven goals in the league so far and Son adding another nine - many of which have been assisted by his England international team-mate.

"With Kane and Son, what Mourinho has done has been incredible,' Defoe said on the Mennie Talks Podcast.

"Those two are the best partnership in world football at the minute. The hardest thing that you can do at the top level is to be consistent, so for those two to show that consistency, for me is unbelievable.

“Son is dynamic, so he runs in behind. He gets the ball and he is direct, he beats people.”

Jose Mourinho is refusing to get involved in discussions over winning the title, saying his team remain a “pony” in the supposed two-horse race, despite their league standing.

Spurs are level on points with reigning champions Liverpool, who are dealing with a long list of injuries in the squad.

And Defoe credits the manager with getting the best out of the players available to him as the big reason why Spurs are competing at the top so far.

"I think it is understanding the players that he has got. Credit to Mourinho because there were a lot of people before he took the job that were thinking "no", but I believe that you should always appreciate greatness because he is a great manager. He is unbelievable."
