Wayne Rooney transfer latest: David Moyes reveals he has visited striker's house in attempt to keep him at Manchester United
Manager says he has spoken on a number of occasions with Rooney, and that the striker is in the best shape for a number of years as he heads into pre-season
Manchester United boss David Moyes has admitted he has been to Wayne Rooney’s house in an attempt to keep the striker with the club as his future remains unclear.
Although there have been no further developments with a potential move for the striker, the former Everton manager repeated what he said in a press conference on Friday that Rooney will not be sold.
Talking to talkSPORT, he said: “The club have already stated Wayne is not for sale.
"I have met Wayne two, three, four times. A lot has been said about myself and Wayne over the years but we have a really good relationship. He came to my house, I have been to his recently to have a chat. Also he is here every day.
The England striker has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as moves abroad with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain rumoured to be in the hunt.
Rooney was criticised last week by his former United fitness coach Mick Clegg for his attitude towards training, claiming that the 27-year-old could be as good as Cristiano Ronaldo if he had a similar work ethic in the gym.
But Moyes defended Rooney, claiming that he is actually in the best shape he has been in coming into pre-season for a number of years.
He said: "I will say he is training great. They are telling me it is the best shape they have seen him in for a long time.
"From that point of view I am taking it as a positive and I am going to try and get the best Wayne Rooney I possibly can."
