Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is resisting the urge to bring in a centre-back this month despite his fears that Ivan Ramis suffered a cruciate ligament injury during the 1-1 draw at Fulham on Saturday.

Martinez aims to find a replacement for Ramis from within his squad and is determined to hang on to his goalscorer Franco Di Santo, who is attracting the attention of Liverpool.

"We are in the January window and we are still looking for one player," Martinez said. "I don't think we are going to look for a centre-half because we still have Antolin Alcaraz to come back from injury and Roman Golobart has done really well in the cup. I think we will have to cope with it internally, but we'll still try to add one more face before the window closes."

On Di Santo's outstanding strike, which cancelled out Giorgos Karagounis's spectacular effort for Fulham, Martinez added: "It was special. Strikers are always going to be judged on clinical finishes and what they do in front of goal. Franco deserves a special mention for the contribution he has given to the team against Fulham."

Martin Jol's Londoners have failed to win in four home games and forward Bryan Ruiz said: "A draw is not what we want when we are playing in our own house. We want to get more points at the Cottage to improve our league position and maybe we could have won the match.

"It was a very good goal by Karagounis to put us 1-0 ahead and we were happy with the performance at half-time. In the second half, Wigan came at us and made it difficult for us to play."
