Rangers shunned by Electronic Arts' Fifa 13 game

Troubled football club Glasgow Rangers looks like it is going be shunned for a third time - on this occasion by the makers of a highly-rated videogame.

The Scottish club whose liquidated assets were bought by newco Rangers has been told it cannot play in the Scottish Premier League and nor can it play in the first division of the Scottish Football League.

Resigned to competing against the likes of Annan Athletic and Elgin City in the third division, Rangers are now unlikely to appear in Electronic Arts' Fifa 13 game either.

According to a spokesman for EA, a decision has yet to be made but is understood that a separate licensing agreement would need to be struck with the club.

“We have a licensing agreement with the Scottish Premier League,” an EA spokesperson said. “We have discussed the league structure with them and we will take their direction regarding the 12th club.

“Fifa 13 will be in retail stores beginning September 28 – after the start of the SPL season – so we have the flexibility to align with the authentic league structure.

“As far as Glasgow Rangers are concerned, we have not made a decision at this time on whether we will pursue a separate licensing agreement to include them in Fifa 13.”

The 12th club in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League has been confirmed this afternoon as Dundee. They were runners-up in the Irn-Bru First Division last season.
