Abdul Baba Rahman to Chelsea: Filipe Luis sale to Atletico will see Blues push for £14m move

Chelsea are pushing to conclude a £14m deal with Augsburg for left back Abdul Baba Rahman after finally selling Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid.

It is understood Atletico have re-signed the Brazil international for a figure close to the £16m Chelsea paid for him last summer.

Luis, who failed to impress at Stamford Bridge and started just nine League games, has agreed a three-year contract with the La Liga club.

The 29-year-old's departure has paved the way for Chelsea to pursue their interest in Rahman.

He was rated the best left-back in the Bundesliga last season and has also attracted an offer from Roma.

Manager Jose Mourinho is believed to be a huge admirer of the 21-year-old and is confident he can be persuaded to move to Stamford Bridge.

The Ghana international will face the same problem Luis had in trying to displace Cesar Azpilicueta as first choice left back.

Rahman wants reassurances that he will get to play regularly before committing his future, however it is thought he favours a move to the English champions over Roma.

Significantly, Roma thought they were on the verge of signing him a few weeks ago, but he has delayed making a decision to see if Chelsea successfully sold Luis.

Mourinho confirmed that he would only make another signing, Chelsea's pursuit of Everton defender John Stones aside, if a player was sold.

Now that Luis has departed, a position in the squad needs to be filled and the Chelsea manager wants Rahman to be the one to do so.
