Pictures have emerged that appear to show the 24-year-old outside Wolfsburg’s training ground as he arrives to undergo a medical, and German newspaper Bild reports that Wolfsburg will shell out an initial £24.2m, with a wage and bonus package totalling an incredible £25.5m.

Schurrle has been used predominantly as an impact substitute this season, but failed to impress when given starts by manager Jose Mourinho. With both Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund interested, a battle was set to ensue for the former Bayer Leverkusen star, but it appears that Wolfsburg have won the race for his signature after his transfer was confirmed on the DFL transfer list earlier today.

Schurrle has made 22 appearances for Chelsea this season, but was a notable absentee for the weekend’s draw with Manchester City as well as last week’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg victory over Liverpool.

Schurrle last scored for Chelsea on 17 January

His last appearance for the Blues came in the 5-0 demolition of Swansea last month, in which he came off the bench to score one of his five goals this season, but despite an impressive showing at last summer’s World Cup, Mourinho clearly sees Schurrle as surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Juan Cuadrado is expected to join Chelsea

With his move confirmed by the Bundesliga, it appears it is only a matter of time before Chelsea confirm the deal, and it could be the biggest indicator yet that their move for Cuadrado is edging towards a positive outcome.
