Arsenal transfer news: Jack Wilshere 'already in talks' for new Gunners contract

The midfielder has reportedly held 'positive talks' with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over extending his current contract

Barely one week after moving to Bournemouth on loan and Jack Wilshere has reportedly already held talks with Arsene Wenger over a possible contract extension at Arsenal.

According to the Sun, the England international is keen on signing a new deal with the Gunners and has held positive talks with Wenger over signing a long-term contract.

The 24-year-old’s current deal expires next summer but a new contract extension, if agreed to, could keep the midfielder at the Emirates for a further three years.

Speaking to the Sun, an Emirates source said: “Jack left because he wanted to get more first-team football to get his England spot back.

“He loves Arsenal and wants to remain and the club and the chats he has had with the club have been very positive on both sides.

“Jack is desperate to stay and prove himself to everyone what a top-class player he is. The experience about Bournemouth should serve him well.”

Regardless of such reports, Wilshere has expressed his delight at joining Eddie Howe at the south coast club while the Cherries’ boss insisted that the player has already made an impact in his squad, despite only playing just 45 minutes of Bournemouth’s friendly against AC Milan.

Howe said: “I hoped the signing and the high profile nature of the signing will give the lads that confidence that having a player like Jack Wilshere in your squad can give.

“I have seen a difference in our players and certainly standing next to them in the tunnel with the team can only inspire belief and confidence in the group.

“Hopefully it will inspire us to be better coaches to our players and it will inspire the players onto another level.”

Wilshere is expected to line up for his first Premier League start for Bournemouth against West Brom this Saturday.

After speaking to Wenger in the final week of the transfer window, Wilshere decided to move out on loan as he seeks to get his career back on track.

The Cherries agreed to pay the player’s £2m loan fee and fund his £90,000-a-week salary.

Wilshere came through the Arsenal youth set-up but has made just 105 appearances for the Premier League side with repeated injuries hindering his development.
