Karim Benzema says there was "nothing in the talk" in reports linking him with a transfer from Real Madrid to join Arsenal.

The French striker had been linked with a move to the Gunners all summer long, but says there was never any truth in the reports, stating that Real Madrid were the "best club in the world".

"There was nothing in the talk of a transfer away from Madrid," he told Telefoot. "I'm happy at my current club, it's the best in the world. I'll continue to work here and be happy where I am."

Benzema played 60 minutes for France in their 1-0 friendly win over Portugal on Friday night, as he recovers from a series of minor injuries that hampered his progress during pre-season.

"It's been like four months since I played properly," he added. "I've played a little bit for Madrid, but that's all. I'm working little by little to be back in shape."
