Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could yet look to add another new face to his Chelsea squad after the Blues reignited their interest in Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda, according to reports.

Having already signed Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from the Spanish league champions, Mourinho suggested that he was done spending for the summer having also brought in club legend Didier Drogba on a free transfer. Mourinho moved quickly to bring in Cesc Fabregas as well, and when he was linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, the Portuguese hinted that he wouldn’t look to sign anyone else before the season starts.

Financial Fair Play regulations had looked to play a big part in that decision, but Chelsea have generated a considerable sum of money this summer through the sales of David Luiz, Demba Ba and most recently Romelu Lukaku.

However, as reported earlier in the summer, Chelsea could still look to land Miranda after he impressed during Atletico’s run to the La Liga title and the Champions League final.

The 29-year-old made 32 league appearance last season notching two goals along the way, and he played every minute of Atletico’s European campaign that ended in extra-time heartbreak to city rivals Real Madrid.

Miranda has made seven appearances for Brazil, although he has not featured for his country since 2013 and missed out on the squad for the home World Cup that saw Brazil’s quest for a historic sixth World Cup triumph end in embarrassment in the 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany.

The two clubs have a good relationship, with Chelsea goalkeeper Thibault Courtois spending three seasons with the Madrid side before returning to his parent club ahead of the new season, where he looks set to battle with Petr Cech for the No 1 shirt.

While Atletico have eased their financial struggles slightly through the league success and player sales, they still spent £22m on bringing Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic in from Bayern Munich, and it is believed that the club are willing to sell Miranda should the right offer be made.
