Christian Benteke is undergoing a two day medical in London ahead of a move to Liverpool, according to reports.

The Aston Villa striker is said to be wanted to by Brendan Rodgers as he looks to address the lack of goals scored by his team last season and rebuilds after the loss of Raheem Sterling.

It is understood that after a good deal of negotiation between the two sides, Liverpool finally agreed to match Benteke's release clause of £32.5m.

The thorough medical being given to the striker is understandable given the serious knee injury that ruled the Belgian out of last year's World Cup, and the large amount of money involved in the move.

Liverpool are widely expected to pay an initial fee of £16m, although when questioned about the player on Sunday, Rodgers maintained he had "nothing to add" when asked what the striker might bring to the side.

The arrival of Benteke would take Liverpool's spending this summer to beyond £60m, following the arrivals of Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino.
