Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he does not know anything about the Reds' interest in Aston Villa's £32.5m striker Christian Benteke.
It had been reported today that Benteke was preparing to undergo a medical at Liverpool after they had met his release clause, but Rodgers was holding his cards close to his chest, replying in a deadpan delivery that he had no idea.
Rodgers was interviewed today after Liverpool defeated Adelaide United 2-0 in Australia as part of their pre-season preparations.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Rodgers said in a televised interview on the pitch following the match.
When he was pushed further on Benteke, he added: "No really, I don't know what you're talking about."
Liverpool made it three wins from three pre-season games after a hard-fought 2-0 victory against the A-League side this morning.
New signing James Milner and Danny Ings were the men on target after the midfielder slotted home Jordon Ibe's cross with a little over 20 minutes remaining, while the striker finished superbly in added time.
