Cristiano Ronaldo’s £88m move to Juventus was announced on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen what shirt number he will be handed by the Italian club.

Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that the transfer of Ronaldo to Juventus had been agreed, for a fee believed to be in the region of £88m.

The Spanish club stated that the move is “in response to the will and request expressed” by Ronaldo, who has spent the past nine years at the Bernabeu since signing from Manchester United.

Ronaldo – nicknamed CR7 – will likely want to be handed the No. 7 shirt at Juventus, however the number is currently worn by Juan Cuadrado.

Cuadrado may yet decide to hand Ronaldo the number, however at both Sporting and Real Madrid the Portuguese star has also briefly worn different numbers.

Ronaldo wore the No. 28 at Sporting but was presented with the hallowed No. 7 shirt at Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson, who saw the youngster as the natural successor to star players including George Best, Bryan Robson and Eric Cantona.

Ronaldo initially wore the No. 9 after signing for Real because club legend Raul held the coveted No. 7 shirt.

But after Raul’s move to Bundesliga side Schalke, Ronaldo was given the No. 7 shirt which he has worn ever since.
