Karim Benzema 'holds the key' to David de Gea joining Spanish giants Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

Manchester United are interested in the striker after Gareth Bale declared he wants to stay with Los Blancos for the foreseeable future.

With new manager Rafa Benitez looking to play either Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo in a more central role next season, it appears that Benzema, who scored 22 goals last season, no longer has a future at the club.

Spanish goalkeeper De Gea has already made it clear to those at Old Trafford that he wants to play for Real next season.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, United's interest in Benzema will "accelerate" De Gea's move to Spain.

Both players are reportedly valued at around £30million and whilst no direct swap deal is being suggested, AS infer that Real will talk to United about Benzema if the Premier League club cooperate over De Gea.
