The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...

It seems that David Moyes means business this transfer window. At the start of the week the Premier League champions put in a bid for Cesc Fabergas and today they have launched a £60m move for Gareth Bale.

The Welshman has been linked with United in the past and if the deal were to happen it would be the first major signing of the Moyes reign.

Tottenham seem to be preparing for the departure of Bale as they are reportedly interested in Spanish starlet Alvaro Vadillo from Real Betis. The 18 year-old has 18 senior appearances for his club and has been likened already to Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hull City and Newcastle United are continuing their pursuit of strikers this summer and may battle it out for Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis.

Having failed to obtain the services of Gary Hooper and Charlie Austin so far in this window, Hull are getting desperate. As far as Newcastle are concerned, they could well lose Papiss Cisse due to the clubs sponsorship deal with Wonga - so a striker will be a top priority.

Former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Raul Merieles could be coming back to the Premier League as Sunderland are considering a move for the 30 year-old. The Portuguese midfielder has been 'unsettled' since his move to Fenerbahce and could join up with Paolo Di Canio on Wearside. Fulham are also reportedly interested.

The long drawn out transfer story of Alvaro Negredo is likely to end in the next 24 hours. Sevilla have announced he will move to the Eithad Stadium subject to a medical with the fee xpected to be around £24.5m. The Spanish club have sold another player to a Premier League club as Crystal Palace have signed Spainsh U20 captain Jose Campana for £1.75m.

And finally, the Luis Suarez transfer saga continues to rumble on as Brendan Rodgers said today that the striker will not be leaving Liverpool “unless something drastic happens”. He has stressed that no player is bigger than the club after Liverpool rejected a £30m bid from Arsenal which fell short of the Reds’ valuation of £40m for the striker.
