Jonjo Shelvey to Crystal Palace: Alan Pardew to offer England international escape route from Liberty Stadium

The midfielder's good early season form was rewarded with five international caps in England's final Euro 2016 qualification games

Crystal Palace are preparing to offer Jonjo Shelvey a way out from his exile at Swansea City during this transfer window, according to reports.

The England international has fallen out of favour at the Liberty Stadium after internal complaints about his attitude and performances in matches and training.

Former Swansea manager Garry Monk dropped the midfielder after November’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, despite Shelvey scoring his only goal of the season in that game.

The 23-year-old was initially restored to the line-up by caretaker Alan Curtis, only to be left out of the squad which travelled to face Manchester United at the weekend.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Shelvey’s struggles in south Wales have not deterred Palace manager Alan Pardew from moving for the player, who he has previously worked with at Charlton Athletic.

It is believed that Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins wants around £10million for the mercurial midfielder, despite recent comments from Curtis suggesting that Shelvey still had a future at the club.

“There's been questions asked about Jonjo's attitude but in the couple of weeks I've been in charge he's been excellent,” Curtis said prior to Swansea’s trip to Old Trafford.

“There's going to be a lot of speculation about Jonjo, he's out of the side at the moment and he's a current England international. I guess people are putting two and two together that if he's not in the team he will move in January.

“But I've spoken to Jonjo and he wants to play a part at the club and, unless things change, I expect him to be with us through January,” he added.

If Shelvey is to move to Selhurst Park, he will hope to recreate his early season form, which saw him selected as part of Roy Hodgson’s squad for England’s final Euro 2016 qualification games.

The former Charlton and Liverpool midfielder picked up five caps on the back of impressive performances against Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United at the start of the campaign.
