Leicester City are closing in on the club-record signing of Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani and remain hopeful of completing a deal for club team-mate Adrien Silva.

Slimani, who will complete a medical tonight, appeared to bid goodbye after scoring in the 2-1 victory against Porto on Sunday while Silva, fresh from his success at Euro 2016 with Portugal, has spoken openly of his desire to join the Premier League champions.

Quizzed about their interest by Porto-based newspaper O Jogo, the 27-year-old midfielder said: “Yes, I confirm this proposal. Leicester is very interesting and corresponds to my career goals.

“After the past 15 years at Sporting, this opportunity is something exceptional for me and I can express and impose myself in another championship, and also to evolve in the Premier League, which is a stunning league.”

On Tuesday, 18-time Portuguese champions Sporting released a strongly-worded statement insisting they will “always defend the interests of the club” despite their captain’s attempts to engineer a move to Leicester.

The Foxes have broken their transfer record twice this summer with the £13m acquisition of Nampalys Mendy from Nice being followed by the £16.5m deal with CSKA Moscow for Ahmed Musa. Ron-Robert Zieler (£2.6m), Luis Hernández (free), and Bartosz Kapustka (£7.5m) have also joined.

Meanwhile, Marc Albrighton has agreed terms on a new contract which will see the former Aston Villa winger remain at the King Power Stadium for the next four years.

The 26-year-old said: "I just think there’s a really good feeling around the place. Everyone seems to want to stay at the club and I think that’s a massive credit to how far the club has come in the last few years. It’s exciting times for Leicester City Football Club and I want to be a part of that.”
