Liverpool are lining up a bid for Schalke star Max Meyer, according to Bild. The Reds are reportedly keen to sign the highly-rated 20-year-old, who has already made 95 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool are prepared to make an opening offer of around £28million for Meyer, who has just two years left on his current deal. But with Leroy Sane potentially on his way out from Schalke, the German club will not be keen to lose another of their key players.

Claudio Ranieri has confirmed that Ben Chilwell will sign a contract extension at Leicester, dashing all Liverpool’s hopes of signing the youngster.

The left-back had been an Anfield target but the Premier League champions look to have held onto the player, even though he currently stands behind Christian Fuchs in the Leicester pecking order.

Asked about the 19-year-old’s new contract, Ranieri told the Leicester Mercury: “He is very close and he will stay with us.”

With Aston Villa's relegation to the Championship, there has also been recent speculation that Jordan Amavi may now be on his way to Merseyside.

He only joined Villa in July last year, and spent most of the season on the sideline after tearing his ACL in November, but is seen as an option by Klopp to boost his defence, according to Sky Sports.

Summer 2016 Transfer Window - Done deals and rumours

Swansea City could be poised to scupper Stoke’s move for Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Potters made a £13m offer for Allen, which is reported to have been accepted, but there could still be time for Swansea to swoop in with a higher bid to bring back their old player.

Lastly, a number of Premier League clubs – Liverpool included, supposedly – have been put on alert after Ivan Rakitic’s agent tweeted that the midfielder could be set to leave Barcelona, the Liverpool Echo reports.

After the Catalan giants signed Andre Gomes from Valencia, Rakitic’s agent tweeted “I think it’s time to go…” Could Liverpool be the ones to sign him?
