Liverpool have already raided Southampton to sign England duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana this summer, but they could make a stunning third move to try and poach their international colleague Jay Rodriguez if reports are to be believed.

Rodriguez is currently consigned to the sidelines after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament that ruled him out of the World Cup had Roy Hodgson selected him for his 23-man squad.

With Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers seeking a replacement for Luis Suarez – who is expected to complete his £75m move to Barcelona this week – with reports linking the northern Irishman with a move for both Swansea’s Wilfried Bony and Loic Remy of Queens Park Rangers.

But the Daily Mail is reporting that the Reds could move for Rodriguez, even though he is not expected to return to action until October at the earliest.

Any move for Rodriguez is likely to infuriate Southampton officials following the departures of Lambert and Lallana, while they also maintain interest in centre-back Dejan Lovren despite the Croatian returning to Saints’ training yesterday.

A move for Seville left-back Alberto Moreno could also be reignited after the Spanish club expressed an interest in signing Liverpool youngster Iago Aspas, who could spend the season on loan in Spain after making 14 appearances last season.
