Liverpool transfer news: Reds make offer for Juventus's Claudio Marchisio, Juve chief confirms

The midfielder has been linked with Anfield move

Liverpool have have had a bid for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio turned down, Juve's CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed.

Marotta added that he believed Marchisio will see out the rest of his career at the club after recently signing a new five-year deal.

"We get so many offers for our players, but we are used to buying not selling. Not only Liverpool, we have received several offers," Marotta was quoted as saying to Calciomercato.

"We have renewed with him, we focus strongly on Claudio and I believe that his first thought is [I will] finish my career here."

Marchisio has made 52 appearances for the Italy national team.

It is unclear whether the approach which Marotta claims was made before or after Jurgen Klopp took over as Liverpool manager.

Fortunate that his error did not gift Spurs a goal in the first half. Although guilty of errors in possession he threatened in the final third but could not find a breakthrough.

The striker was full of running but looked short of confidence. His pace troubled Spurs but his finishing did not. Unfortunate to hit the bar from close range.

Klopp had his first game as Liverpool manager on Saturday, the goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

The German manager said his Liverpool side "will get stronger" this season after the stalemate on his debut.

"I am happy because I saw many good things, in the first 20 minutes we were pressing and were very aggressive.

"We will get stronger. We were a little bit nervous when we got the ball because the pulse was a little too high at this moment.

"There were many full-throttle moments in the game. We need to improve but after working with the players for three days I am completely satisfied."
