Liverpool will sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk this transfer window - no question, no doubt. That’s according to Micky Quinn at least.

The former Newcastle striker believes the club are on course to bring the Dutchman to Anfield, beating rivals Everton to the defender with a substantial offer.

"No, don't worry about Ronald Koeman," he said. “Liverpool will blow them (Everton) out of the water. That's what I've been told, anyway."

Should Quinn’s wild prediction prove right, Van Dijk will become the latest Saints player to make the switch to Anfield, following in the footsteps of Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and numerous others.

The Reds are also set to step up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic now that Philippe Coutinho has been ruled out for up to six weeks.

The Brazilian underwent a scan on Monday to confirm the full extent of the ankle injury he sustained during the side’s 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday.

Coupled with the long-term injury of Danny Ings and Sadio Mane’s absence through the Africa Cup of Nations, the Reds are now looking to add to their attacking options as the side prepare for what will be a difficult Christmas period.

The Reds already made an alleged £11m bid for Pulisic during the summer but the offer was turned by Dortmund.

But Liverpool’s current predicament has forced the club’s hand to search for cover and it’s understood a £25m is being offered for January, the Daily Mail reports.
