We'll start with what we think is a good bit of gossip.

The Guardian state that Liverpool have made a bid of €32million (£24.6m) for Shakhtar Donestsk forward Alex Teixeira, who has been a long-term target of Chelsea and linked almost every day in this window.

Chief executive Ian Ayre is on his way to Florida to try and make a deal with the club - the Brazilian, 26, has 26 goals in 26 matches this season (that's not a typo).

But, the above aside, it's starting to be that time in January when the gossip columns are getting more and more desperate and the rumours are getting more and more unlikely.

First up is Robert Lewandowski. You know, the Bayern Munich striker who has 29 goals in 30 matches, is said to be worth £70million and is wanted by Real Madrid? Liverpool are apparently in the running.

The theory, touted by the likes of the Daily Telegraph, Metro and Daily Express, is that Jurgen Klopp feels he could convince to join the Reds - the same team currently eight points away from the Champions League and without a Premier League win in three.

Don't be so cynical, we hear you shout, Lewandowski played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund! Indeed and how did Klopp do convincing him to stay rather than jumping ship?

Still not convinced?

"I don’t see any difference between Bayern and England’s big clubs Of course, the English clubs have plenty of money to spend — but they always had a lot of money and Bayern have always been able to compete.

"There is not a single club in England that will catch Bayern just because they have more money all of a sudden."

So says Robert Lewandowski.

"Robert Lewandowski has been mentioned as a possible candidate for Real Madrid," that was Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer.

There may well be truth in Liverpool wanting him. But we'd like to be paid £10m for writing this rather average transfer column - doesn't mean it will ever happen. I think we should put that rumour back in the draw and forget about it for good.

Another January favourite for Liverpool is Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona. Liverpool have been told they can sign the German for £23m.

Guess who said this...

"No. We have some problems at this moment but thank God not around the goalkeeper position so everything is okay. It's how I said plenty of time on the goalkeeper position and the situation is more than okay, we are satisfied. I know both goalkeepers."

That was Jurgen Klopp at the start of the month. Since then Simon Mignolet has signed a new five-year deal. Could it be the rumour has resurfaced because Ter Stegen played well in a high profile game that was broadcast live on British TV on Wednesday night? We hope we're wrong.

Another long-term target back in the news is Barcelona forward Cristian Tello, who is currently on loan at Porto. Tello was one of Brendan Rodgers' supposed favourites and Klopp is said to be equally interested, although the rumour comes from Tuttomercatoweb...

A couple of rumours that seem to have a bit more substance is Granit Xhaka, linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, has admitted it is a "dream" to one day play in the Premier League.

"I have a childhood dream, that is the Premier League," the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder said. "Whether I play two or a hundred games in England, I would like to eventually make this childhood dream come true."

That one will have to wait until summer.

One of Brendan Rodgers' worst signings, Joe Allen, is linked with a return to former club Swansea City by Wales Online.

The Welshman cost £15m in 2012 but has started just 53 of 136 (39 per cent) possible Premier League matches since the move, although some of that can be blamed on injury.

The report claims that Swansea have made an enquiry but have been told they will have to wait until the summer to sign the 25-year-old.
